Summer Bar #4: Drawing Basses

Drawing basses. Or: basses that draw. No coincidence: creator and bass player Kristof Roseeuw brings several disciplines together in interactive performances with an exciting game element.

Graphic score? Visual scores are not at all unusual in contemporary music. They were introduced by composers who were looking for other ways of notating music. Not necessarily with staves, but also with colours and shapes. This not only gives the performer more freedom, but also allows the composer to use a completely different form of creativity. The audience as composer.

With Drawing Basses, the audience becomes the composer and determines what will be played. Not by making a round of requests, but by supplying the score themselves. Crayons, markers and paper are ready, spontaneity is the key word. These spontaneous drawings are then 'translated' into music. At any moment, one of the musicians can choose a new drawing, show it and perform it together with the other musicians. Creativity and freedom In short: everyone contributes to the concert in their own way, and you don't have to be an expert to do so. You will hear how different disciplines can shape each other, how surprised you will be to hear the result.
