Out of a moving van come old cupboards, suitcases full of stuff and a rickety piano. The Rus & Comen move packs full of music alongside the household effects of a wealthy Russian lady. Shutters full of notes, a chest with a firebird and a season or four wrapped in old paper. Russian classical music and folk songs come crawling out of boxes and crates. Through this: a juicy story about lost truck drivers, broken vans and the suspicion of a mysterious treasure in a closet or under a mattress. And over that: a sauce of magic, conjuring and things that can't be done at all. Gradually, clichés about the other and strange Russia are also cracked open: the other, that's me.
