JOSSE JNR (Lod/Ahilan Ratnamohan) selected by Het Theaterfestival!

We are very pleased to announce that the performance Josse Jnr by LOD & Ahilan Ratnamohan has been selected for Theatre Festival 2024.

In this performance, which premiered at the Kampnagel Festival Hamburg, theatre-maker and performer Ahilan Ratnamohan, together with Josse De Pauw and Etuwe Bright Junior, explores language learning and the inevitable power relations that arise from it.

Junior is an economic migrant from Nigeria and sees theatre as a last chance to achieve something better than a job in the factory after a failed football career. Ahilan is a migrant from the much more privileged Australian context, but with Sri Lankan Tamil roots. Josse has already spent a lifetime touring the world as a theatre-maker and is a star in his own country.

In Josse Jnr, they explore together what De Pauw's texts, stylistically so European and abstract, can mean on another body. How can these texts and aesthetics - which by now have largely defined the Flemish canon - reach another poetry? Is Flemishness transferable? Who can become a star and under what conditions?

From the jury report:

‘Rarely do you see such authentic differences between actors come together so beautifully on stage’
‘A haunting one-two punch between two generations of purebred actors who together share a passion for both language and football.’

The show plays on 14 and 15 September 2024 in c o r s o Berchem.
